Creative tags for all Big Mobile ad units (Static Images, Rich Media Studio or Custom Ads) can be configured using Creative Manager, accessible from within the IO System.

Accessing Creative Manager

Creative Manager can be accessed either from the Insertion Orders index page:

or alternatively, from an Insertion Order itself:

Creating Tags

For example, if a single rich MREC ad unit has been sold across two line items (ROC Sport and ROC Entertainment), you would create two separate tags that link to the same creative. This will enable you to:

  • Configure client tracking URLs separately (if required)
  • Provide campaign reporting separately

Open the Creative Browser by pressing Find Creative. Creatives will appear in order of their creation date (most recent first).

Once you select a creative, a tag will be created and you will be presented with the Tag Editor

Enter a descriptive name for the tag, also any values for creative tokens (e.g. click URL), and select the required creative format. A single creative may have multiple formats to choose from, for example expandable, mrec, and click-to-site.

Once configured, press Activate. Note that once activated, you cannot change the selected format of a tag.

Generating snippets

Snippets are small sections of computer code that can be loaded into an ad server. To generate snippets for your tag, press the Snippets button on the Creative Manager or Tag Editorscreens.

  1. Select the IO line item to associate the tag to
  2. Select the ad server the snippet should be generated for (usually AppNexus)
  3. Select the delivery method (note that URL pair should be selected when available, it theoretically increases the total available inventory).
  4. If generating a snippet for the Pulse ad server, select the appropriate template (standard or opt-out)
  5. Select the desired URL mode - note that some ad servers (e.g. AppNexus) expect separate standard / secure snippets.
  6. Copy the text from the Snippet area to the clipboard

Trafficking in AppNexus

The steps for trafficking a creative in AppNexus differ slightly depending on the delivery method you selected in the previous step.

Start by opening AppNexus Creative Manager for the appropriate advertiser, and selecting Create New > Single Creative

BM JavaScript
  1. Configure the creative with the following settings:
    1. Type: Third party creative
    2. Creative format: Third-party tag
  2. If the creative is an an expanding unit, you MUST change the Media Type to Expandable - Other expandable
  3. Copy and paste the Standard snippet into the Standard tag section, then the Secure snippet into the Secure tag section
  4. Input the name and size of the creative
  5. Verify the creative is rendering correctly using the Preview tab. For expandable units, use the Preview the creative in a new window option
  6. Click the ad and ensure the expected behaviour occurs (e.g. expand or click through)
  7. Close any ad preview / click through windows
  8. Press the Check status button and ensure click testing passes

If click testing fails - do not traffick the creative. Notify the production team that something is wrong with the creative. The production team can escalate to Tech if necessary.

JavaScript URL

    1. Type: Third party creative

  1. Configure the creative with the following settings:
    1. Type: Third-party creative
    2. Creative Format: Third-party URL
    3. Output type: Image
  2. Copy and paste the two URLs from your snippet into the appropriate fields - note that if the client requires 3rd party click tracking, you will need to send them the landing page URL, wait for them to return you a tracking URL and then use this in place of the original landing page URL.
  3. Input the name and size of the creative
  4. Verify the creative is rendering correctly using the Preview tab

Think of a tag as an association between a creative unit, some configurable options (click tracking URLs etc) and an Insertion Order. One tag should be created for each line item and creative (or collection or line items) that you need to provide campaign reporting on.
